# XP & Streaks

> How experience points and streaks work, and what they unlock

XP (experience points) and streaks are the two primary motivation systems in Model Diplomat. XP measures how much you've learned. Streaks measure how consistently you come back.

## XP

XP is awarded for every learning activity you complete. It accumulates permanently on your account — it never decreases.

### XP sources

| Activity                                      | XP earned                                          |
| --------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------- |
| Completing a lesson                           | 10–50 XP (depends on lesson length and difficulty) |
| Perfect lesson (no mistakes on first attempt) | +5–10 bonus XP                                     |
| Completing a Daily Challenge                  | 15–30 XP                                           |
| Perfect Daily Challenge                       | +5 bonus XP                                        |
| Completing a full course                      | 50–150 XP bonus                                    |
| Completing a curriculum                       | 200–500 XP bonus                                   |
| Maintaining a streak (bonus per day)          | 5–10 XP                                            |

### What XP determines

* Your **level** — XP milestones unlock level badges shown on your profile
* Your position on the **All-Time XP Leaderboard**
* Your position on the **Weekly XP Leaderboard** (resets weekly)

## Streaks

A streak counts how many consecutive days you've completed at least one learning activity. Any of the following counts toward your streak:

* Completing a lesson
* Completing a Daily Challenge
* Finishing a simulation

### Streak bonuses

| Streak length | Bonus      |
| ------------- | ---------- |
| 3 days        | +5 XP/day  |
| 7 days        | +10 XP/day |
| 14 days       | +15 XP/day |
| 30 days       | +20 XP/day |

Streak bonuses stack on top of the normal XP for whatever activity you completed.

### Losing your streak

If you miss a day entirely (no lessons, no challenge, no simulation), your streak resets to zero. There's no grace period or streak freeze at this time.

<Tip>
  The Daily Challenge is the easiest way to protect your streak — it takes 2–5 minutes and counts as a full streak day. Even on your busiest days, you can keep it going.

### Streak leaderboard

Your streak length appears on the [Community Leaderboard](/community/leaderboard) (Streak tab). The longest streaks in the community are visible to all users.

## Levels

As your XP grows, you progress through levels. Each level has a name and badge that appears on your profile. Levels are visible to other users and on the leaderboard.

Level thresholds increase as you progress — early levels are reached quickly, later ones require sustained commitment.
