# Countries

> Country profiles, comparisons, and political data for every UN member state

The Countries section gives you structured political profiles for every country in the world — useful for MUN research, understanding bilateral relationships, and general political reference.

## Country profiles

Each country profile includes:

* **At a glance** — Key facts: population, GDP, government type, head of state, regional bloc memberships, UN member since
* **Political system** — How the country's government is structured, the main parties, and the current political situation
* **Foreign policy** — The country's key alliances, rivalries, and diplomatic priorities
* **UN positions** — How the country typically votes in major UN bodies and its stated positions on major global issues
* **Recent developments** — A feed of recent Atlas searches and Briefing stories about the country

## Country comparison

You can select up to four countries and view a side-by-side comparison on any dimension:

* Government type
* Economic indicators
* UN voting records
* Position on major issues

This is especially useful for understanding how similar (or different) your country is from your negotiating partners in a committee.

## How to find a country

Go to **Countries** in the left sidebar. You can:

* Browse alphabetically
* Search by country name
* Filter by region (Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, North America)

## Using country profiles for MUN prep

A country profile is the starting point for any MUN research session. Use it to understand:

1. **Your country's fundamental interests** — A country's foreign policy priorities are shaped by its history, geography, and economy. The profile makes this explicit.
2. **Who your allies are** — Regional blocs, treaty organizations, and bilateral relationships tell you who to approach first in the committee.
3. **Who your opponents are** — Countries with opposing interests or historical tensions will need more sophisticated diplomatic handling.

Then use Atlas to go deeper on any specific aspect of your country's position.
